Coffee is brewed when ground. There are several grades for grinding used for different brewing methods.

- Coarse grind — grinding to particles up to 0.8 mm. Suits well for brewing in
French press or any coffee pot. - Medium grind — used for various brewing methods, for example, in drip brewers with filters and coffee-presses (cafetiere).
- Fine grind — for espresso coffee machines and brewing in a cup.
